The Stranger on the Road

"Beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded unto them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself." — Luke 24:27
Synoptic Insight
The greatest Bible lesson ever taught was not delivered from a synagogue, a mountain, or the Temple courts. It unfolded along an ordinary road between Jerusalem and Emmaus. Two discouraged disciples walked beside the risen Christ without recognizing Him. Their eyes were fixed on recent events, their expectations had collapsed, and their understanding of Scripture had been shaped more by disappointment than by revelation. Jesus did not immediately reveal His identity. Instead, He revealed Himself through the Scriptures. Beginning with Moses and continuing through the Prophets, He demonstrated that the Bible had always been telling one story—His story. Every promise, every sacrifice, every covenant, every king, every priest, and every prophet pointed toward Him.
This moment establishes a foundational principle: the Scriptures are not primarily a collection of moral lessons or historical accounts. They are the progressive unveiling of Jesus Christ. When Christ becomes the center of our reading, confusion begins to give way to clarity, and fragmented passages become part of one unified revelation.
The Emmaus road reminds us that it is possible to know the Scriptures and still miss the One to whom they testify. Information alone cannot produce recognition. Only the Spirit can open our eyes to behold Christ in every part of God's Word.
