HEBREWS Christ the More Excellent Way

Hebrews repeatedly uses the language of something better. A better covenant. A better sacrifice. A better priesthood. A better hope. These statements do not dishonor the Old Testament patterns. They reveal that the patterns were always pointing beyond themselves toward fulfillment. Jesus is greater than angels. Greater than Moses. Greater than the Levitical priesthood. His sacrifice is final. His priesthood is eternal. His covenant reaches the heart. The tabernacle, priesthood, sacrifices, and covenant structures become shadows pointing toward the substance found in Christ. Hebrews therefore gives us one of Scripture's strongest demonstrations of Christ-centered interpretation. The book also calls believers toward maturity. “Let us go on unto perfection.” Access has been given so that transformation can occur. The veil is open. The Son has brought us near. Now sons are called to draw near, endure, mature, and run their race faithfully.

Sonship Application: Christ has not merely given us better religious privileges. He has opened a better way of relationship with the Father.
